A rally will be held here on September 29 to demand protection of constitutional rights for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and the minority communities.
The rally will be held under the banner of BSP and 'SC/ST Hak Samrakshan Samiti of Yavatmal', BSP district unit chief Tarik Sahir Lokhandwala told reporters today.
Among the major demands are scrupulous implementation of the amended Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, promotion to SC/ST employees working in different cadres in the government and semi-government departments and better facilities for students of the community in government and government-aided hostels, he said.
The organisers claimed that over five lakh people are expected to take part in the rally.
"A memorandum of our demands will be handed over to the district collector after the rally," Lokhandwala said.
