Rally in Pune to demand arrest of accused in Nayna Pujari case

Abhijit Pujari, husband of the deceased, also submitted a memorandum to Pune police commissioner Gulabrao Pol urging him to arrest Yogesh Raut, the key accused in the case who escaped from police custody in 2011.

Scores of people participated in the rally demanding justice to the victim and death for the perpetrators of the crime.

Nayna, the victim was abducted by four persons when she was waiting for a bus and was later killed after being gang-raped. Her body was found at a nearby village. Police arrested all the four accused including Raut.

Raut, however, escaped from Sassoon hospital on September 17, 2011, when he was brought there from Yerawada central jail after a police constable removed his handcuffs as he wanted to go to toilet. The constable was later dismissed from service.

 

A spokesperson for the Police said that a special squad had been set up to track down Raut.
