Members of several trade unions today held a rally here demanding higher wages, abolition of contractual labour system and implementation of labour laws.
On the call given by Central trade unions including BMS, INTUC, AITUC, CITU, AICCTU and CTU Punjab, protesters gathered here amid tight police security and accused the Centre of following "anti-labour" policies.
"There was a massive response to the call of protest rally today. Protesters including government employees of various departments, industrial workers coming Punjab participated in the protest rally here," CITU General Secretary (Punjab) Raghunath Singh claimed.
Strongly condemning the "anti-employee" policies, the trade union leaders demanded that minimum wages of workers should be hiked to Rs 10,000 per month and universal social security cover should be provided to all workers.
