Telugu version of the actor Ram Charan Teja's bi-lingual (Hindu and Telugu) film 'Toofan' was released in multiplexes and single-screen cinema halls in the city amid tight security today.

The film is being screened at 21 places here.

The anti-bifurcation protesters had said that they would not allow the film to release, because Union Minister K Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan Teja's father, was silent over the proposed division of Andhra Pradesh, and did not quit his post.

But following High Court orders, police today provided extensive security to cinema halls where the film showed.

There were protests at some places. Police took some activists in preventive custody near Sangam Sarat Theatre.

In Vizianagram district too, the film was released under police security.
