Ram Raj wins 3rd Run for Fun marathon

Ram Raj won the third edition of the Jammu Marathon 'Run for Fun' organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police here today.

The lanky runner from Patnihal area of Jammu clocked a timing of 2:05:36s to take home cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a certificate.

Ram Raj was followed by Vijay Sharma (2:23:10s) of Akhnoor and Muzaffer Maqbool (2:33:50s) of Badgam in Kashmir.

In the half-marathon, top place in men's section went to Rajesh Kumar, while Anjali Choudhary from Samba won the honours in the female category.

The 12km under-17 run was won by Jaspreet Kaur and Kanit Gurong in their respective categories.
 

Minister of State for Home, Sajjad Kichloo, who flagged off the marathon, said that the aim of the event was to promote healthy living among the masses besides sending out a message of peace and harmony in the society.

The Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad, who was the chief guest on the occasion, endorsed the views of Kichloo.

He added that the event was organised to increase the interaction between the civil society and the police.

Apart from the above mentioned categories, the event also featured spoon race and musical chair, besides a 4 km 'Run for Fun' event.

Additional Director General, Armed Police, S M Sahai, among other senior police officials were present on the occasion.
