Police today told the Madras High Court bench here today that they had almost zeroed in on the culprits involved in the murder of K N Ramajeyam, brother of former Transport Minister K N Nehru, in 2012 and sought six more months time to apprehend the accused.

The CB-CID police gave their status report in a sealed cover and said they needed six more months to arrest the culprits.

But Justice M Sathyanarayanan granted three months time to them on a petition by the victim's wife R Latha Ramajeyam seeking to transfer the case to CBI contending that CB-CID was "not able" to make any breakthrough even after more than 35 months.

Ramajeyam, younger brother of Nehru, was found murdered near Cauvery river banks after he was allegedly abducted by unidentified assailants from Thillai Nagar in Tiruchirapalli on March 29, 2012, when he had gone for his usual walk.

The case was transferred to CB-CID on June 22, 2012.

Though information about the criminals involved in the murder had been shared with the police, they had not taken any action. If the case was investigated by CB-CID, no justice would be done in the case. Hence it should be transferred to CBI, she submitted.

On January 22 also, the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department filed a status report in the court on the investigation conducted by it.
