Yoga guru Ramdev today appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to enforce a total ban on cow slaughter, saying it was necessary to contain the communal clashes in the country.

"I appeal to the Prime Minister to enforce a total ban on cow slaughter. If there is a blanket ban...There would be no communal tension, clashes in the country," he told a press conference here.

"Till the 18th century, there was no cow slaughter in India and even Aurangzeb had put a total ban on cow killing. Uttar Pradesh appears to be a highly sensitive state in the country, there is a complete ban on cow slaughter, too," he said.

On bringing back black money stashed overseas, Ramdev said the Modi government was "honestly" working in this regard. "The NDA government has good intentions and its policy is better. There is a need to adopt a result-oriented approach to bring back black money," he said.
