Union Minister Jairam Ramesh today paid tributes to tribal siblings Sido Murmu and Kanhu at Bhognadih in Sahibganj district to mark the Santhal icons' rebellion against the British 158 years ago.

The Union rural development minister went to the house of their descendants, garlanded the statues of the brothers, who on this day in 1855 mobilised Santhals and declared a rebellion against the British colonists.

Jharkhand observes the day as 'Hul Diwas'.

Several other leaders also paid the tribute on the occasion.
