Press Trust of India New Delhi
Former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh today expressed apprehension that in pursuit for economic growth the Narendra Modi government may put environment in the backseat.

"This government is far more cohesive and far more coherent....Far more centralised. This government believes in truimphalism of growth. This government believes the triumphalism of technology....I frankly do not see a bright future for environmental issues in this government," the former Environment Minister said.

Participating at a panel discussion after releasing a book on environment, Ramesh said, "I think it is going to be a losing battle" for green warriers.

Environment is something that BJP should take very seriously and it will be judiciary, media and the civil society which are going to play the important role for its protection, he said.
