Claiming that the Centre's ban on high value currency notes was causing serious problems to them, fishermen's associations did not venture out to sea today and said they would continue to do so until banks started dispensing enough cash to them.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting convened by the Mechanised Boats Fishermen Association here today.
"Fishermen have been forced to endure hardships as they are unable to purchase essential items, especially diesel for their boats, owing to shortage of cash," said Rameswaram Mechanised Boats Fishermen's Association President N Devadoss.

Hence the fishermen here would not venture into the sea until banks started dispensing enough cash to them, he added.
The association had on November 11 taken such an action and had withdrawn it on November 19.
Meanwhile, the fishermen highlighted their demand for a mobile ATM in the town to withdraw money, at a meeting convened by the fisheries department here last night.
They also urged the state government to take up the issue with the banks.
