Ramnavami celebrated in Ayodhya amid tight security

Ramnavami was today celebrated in Ayodhya with traditional fervour ans gaiety as thousands of devotees thronged temples and took holy dip in River Saryu.

Scores of devotees took the holy dip in the river in the morning and paid a visit to all major temples including Kanak Bhawan, Hanumangarhi and Nageshwarnaath temples.

People celebrated the birth day of Lord Rama even as tight security cover was thrown around the city police personnel kept a vigil.

Celebrations begin with a prayer to the sun god early in the morning. At midday, when Lord Rama is supposed to have been born, a special prayer is performed. People sing devotional songs in praise of the deity, and rock images of him in a cradle to celebrate the occasion.
 

Chariot processions of Ram, Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman were also held.

"There was no extremist threat for this religious gathering of Ram Navami Mela, but we made all possible arrangements to ensure the security of devotees", a police officer said.
