Deputy Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council Javed Ahmed Rana today urged the state government to take up the issue of the railway project for Poonch and Rajouri districts with the Centre on priority.

"The state government should take up the issue of the railway project for Poonch and Rajouri districts with the Union government on priority to reassess the viability of the ambitious project," Rana told reporters here today.

He said the railway line from Jammu to Poonch was being anticipated as a major project which could have boosted the economy of the two border districts, and attracted tourists to various places of attraction there including Mughal Road.

Rana said shelving of this project had caused great distress among the people, and requested for reconsidering the project for the development of the area.

While responding to the issues of new administrative units, Rana said the new administrative units would play an important role in improving the public delivery mechanism by effective administrative set up and cater to the developmental needs of all the regions.
