Rane demands fast track court for rape cases in Goa

Leader of Opposition in Goa Assembly, Pratapsingh Rane today demanded setting up of a fast track court for trial of rape cases in the state.

"Day by day such cases are increasing in the state," Rane said on the floor of the House, referring to the number of rape cases reported in Goa.

"Set up fast track court for such cases, let them be disposed of fast," he said, adding that "some of the cases might be bogus."

The data provided on the floor of the House indicates that during 2012, 46 cases of rape were reported in various police stations across the state.
 

Of the total cases, 20 were reported within three days of the incident, 20 more were reported within four days of the crime, while six were reported to the police after a period of six months and above.

Responding to another question, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that 182 cases of molestation have been registered from April 2012 till date in the state.
