Narayan Rane today met Congress President Sonia Gandhi amid talk of likely changes in the party-led coalition government in the state.
AICC sources did not attach much significance to the meeting.
Gandhi has had meetings with several Maharashtra leaders in the last few days.
A section of the Congress is favouring a change of leadership in Maharashtra, while another feels incumbent Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan is the best bet.
Chavan has already sought permission for a reshuffle of his Cabinet.
