Declaring open 12 work shelters constructed by the Project Implementation Agency in charge of rehabilitation of fishermen hit by tsunami here, he said the shelters were constructed at a cost of Rs 14.50 crore provided by the World Bank.

These shelters were located in Kanagachettykulam, Periyakalapet, Chinna Kalapet, Pillaichavady, Veerampattinam, Nallavadu and Pannithittu villages in Puducherry region.

He said these shelters would provide landing facilities for fishermen and also reduce periodical losses to their motorized fishing vessels and outboard motors. Facilities for storing of fish would also be available in the shelters.
