A Gothangaon range forest officer was arrested today for allegedly helping Maoists, police sources said.

The Deori police arrested Gothangaon Range Forest Officer S B Kulmethe and charged him with allegedly helping Maoists by giving them provisions for their daily needs.

The police has registered an offence under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and is probing the matter further, sources said.

Gothangaon is situated in the sensitive Maoist-hit belt and lies under Bharnoli's Armed Out Post (AOP) under the Keshori police station.

Kulmethe was on the police radar after the arrest of forest guard Kagdi Meshram and other forest department staffers like chef Vasanta Kosre and others on August 4, 2013.

The police had also recovered shoes, clothes and medicines from Gothangaon's forest department rest house.

Those who were arrested had named RFO Kulmethe's involvement with Maoists.
