"Government will also compensate those whose houses have been affected due to this demolition drive," he said.
The 1.6-km-long four-lane grade separator will be constructed on the stretch between Filmistan cinema and near St Stephen's Hospital.
"The project was delayed as land acquisition was the main hurdle. As demolition was completed, the work on this project will soon start," said another senior official.
The foundation stone for the grade separator on Rani Jhansi Road was laid in 2008.
The project aims to de-congest and ease traffic congestion on Rani Jhansi Road, Bara Hindu Rao, DCM Chowk, Azad Market and Baraf Khana Chowk to reach St Stephen's, Subzi Mandi chowk and Azad Market.
