Former Vadodara mayor Ranjit Chavan has been elected as co-president of Jakarta-based United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific (UCLG-ASPAC).
Chavan, who was also the Vice-Chairman of the All India Council of Mayors, was recently elected to the position, a statement issued by his office said today.
"The UCLG ASPAC organisation is key knowledge management hub on local government issues in the region. Its activities include in promoting twinning and partnerships between local governments worldwide and supporting decentralisation and local governance in developing countries supported by the European Commission," Chavan told reporters here today.
UCLG is a worldwide association of local government organisations and is recognised by the United Nations.
