Maharashtra Transport Minister Divakar Raote on Tuesday sought to blame common people over the menace of agents at RTO offices.

Speaking at Kalyan in Thane district after performing ground-breaking ceremony for a new Regional Transport Office, the minister said touts at RTO offices were propped up by people for their comfort.

"Citizens promote agents at RTO offices for their convenience. RTOs are not responsible. We are trying to weed out agents," he said.

In a veiled criticism aimed at the Centre, the Shiv Sena leader said, "Though we drafted different Acts and sent them to the Centre, we have to abide by the Central Acts".
