A local court has declared suspended IAS official B B Mohanty, who is facing rape charges, an absconder and also issued standing arrest warrant against him.

The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate issued the standing arrest warrant against Mohanty yesterday under Section 83 of CrPC after he failed to appear before it on June 18 in a case of allegedly raping a 22-year-old civil services aspirant.

A non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against Mohanty, an Additional Chief Secretary-rank official, in February by the court on the complaint lodged on January 25 at Mahesh Nagar police station here.

However, Mohanty has been evading arrest since then.

In her complaint, the 22-year-old civil services aspirant had alleged that Mohanty, who was then posted as the Chairman of the Rajasthan Civil Services Appellate Tribunal, raped her for the past one year on pretext of helping her clear the IAS exams.
