Several organisations today held a mahapanchayat in Niwadi area of Ghaziabad, protesting against police action against some villagers in connection with the recent rape-and-conversion of a woman in Meerut's Kharkhoda.
The organisers, including several Hindu outfits, claimed that the 'peace meeting' was held at Khindoda village in Niwadi to "protest against police atrocities and registration of fake FIRs against some villagers".
The mahapanchayat was held amid heavy police presence. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ran Vijay Singh said a large posse of police personnel was present at the site of 'peace meeting' and the whole proceeding has been video-recorded.
