Rape victim attempts suicide in Muzaffarnagar

A 21-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by a youth attempted suicide here, police said today.

The incident took place yesterday when the girl had gone to collect water from a public handpump following which one Ankit came and took her to a nearby place. He then raped the girl at gun-point, Station House Officer Dhananjay Mishra said.

Later, the girl attempted suicide by jumping in Ganga canal at Jansath town in the district, he said.

The victim's father has lodged an FIR against the accused.

A case has been registered against the absconding accused, police said, adding that the girl has been sent for medical examination.
 

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man took the extreme step by jumping before a train at Atkhatoli railway station in the district yesterday, police said.

A 25-year-old youth attempted suicide by jumping in a river along with his one-year-old son here last evening, police said, adding that family dispute was stated as the reason behind the incident.

Later, locals rescued the duo from the river.

In another incident, one Anuj committed suicide by setting himself ablaze at Kidwainagar here last evening.
