A 26-year-old rape victim was today booked by police for attempting suicide here by consuming some poisonous substance.

On the complaint of ASI Narender Kumar, the rape victim has been booked under section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the Indian Penal Code, a police spokesperson said.

A case has also been registered against the victim's parents, the spokesperson said.

The rape victim is still undergoing treatment at PGIMS in Rohtak where her condition is now stated to be out of danger.

The victim and her family had come to Jhajjar from Bahadurgarh yesterday to appear before a local court in connection with the rape case.

She had reportedly engaged in a verbal duel with the accused, Neeraj Sharma, in the court premises after the hearing.

After the court hearing, she consumed some poisonous substance with an intention to end her life, police said.

On the complaint by the victim, Bahadurgarh police had last year registered a case on charges of rape against Chhikkara Colony resident Neeraj.
