The mother of a Chinese girl who was raped and forced into prostitution by local officials, has appealed for compensation for confining her to a labour camp to deter her from acting against the culprits.

Tang Hui, from central China's Hunan province, appealed to Provincial High People's Court after losing a lawsuit against local authorities, who sent her to a labour camp for protesting her daughter's captors' sentences.

Last year, Tang petitioned for harsher punishments for those found guilty of raping her daughter and forcing her into prostitution.

She was placed in a labour camp in Yongzhou for "seriously disturbing social order and exerting a negative impact on society" by protesting in front of local government buildings in August last year.

She was sentenced to 18 months in the camp, but was released eight days later amid a public outcry urging her release.

On January 22, Tang filed a lawsuit at the Intermediate People's Court in Yongzhou in which she asked for 2,463.85 yuan (USD 400) in compensation.

Her case was heard on January 28, with courtroom proceedings lasting one day. On April 12, the court ruled that Tang was not entitled to the compensation she requested, state-run news agency Xinhua reported.
