Rare medicinal herb seized in Doda, one held

An alleged smuggler has been arrested after 364 kg of a banned rare medicinal herb was seized in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said today.

A raid was carried out at the house of Murad Ahmed of Paryote village in Bhaderwah belt of Doda district last evening and 364 kgs of Nag Chatri (Trillium govanianum) was recovered, police said.

The rare herb was recovered from the ground floor of the house where it was dumped by Liyaqat Ali of Bhagwa for smuggling illegally to Punjab, they said.

Liyaqat was arrested and a case was registered, they said.

Police in Doda district have seized 1,037 kg of this forest produce and arrested 23 persons this year.
 

The herb is worth lakhs of rupees in the international market.
