The Prime Minister should not get emotional but must be rational and explain why honest people are being "punished" in the government's fight against dishonest people, CPI leader D Raja said reacting to Narendra Modi getting teary-eyed during his speech in Goa today.

"There is no point in the Prime Minister getting emotional, but the Prime Minister must be rational to explain his government's decision.

"The government demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes, but why introduce Rs 2,000 currency note? The Prime Minister must explain the rationale behind this," Raja said.

Raja also demanded to know how the government was fighting against black money stashed abroad.

"The Prime Minister says he is fulfilling promise on black money. But he has not spoken about black money stashed abroad.

"People are suffering, queueing up outside banks. You can't punish the honest while fighting against the dishonest," the CPI National Secretary said.
