Ration provided to BPL families based on 2001 census: J&K govt

Jammu and Kashmir government today said that on the basis of 2001 census, people who were categorised as BPL families were being provided ration and other benefits.

Replying to a question by B R Kundal in the Legislative Council, Minister for CA&PD, Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan said that the department was providing food grains to BPL families as per the census 2001.

BPL families which were found ineligible, at any stage, were not provided ration, and benefits were not given to families who have come out of the category, he said.

The state had ordered a re-verification of records of BPL families in 2009. The the committees constituted under Deputy Commissioners were yet to submit their reports to the Planning and Development department, after which the matter would be taken up for consideration, the Minister said.
