Ration shps in TN to get Point of Sale system

All the ration shops in Tamil Nadu would get Point of Sale System to curtail pilferage in ration shops, Civil Supplies Department sources said.

The GPS based system would give details about essential commodities sent from the godowns to the shops, the quantity received by the respective shops and also bring to light of the officials if there was delay in the transit of essential items.

According to Chezhian, District Supply Officer here the system had been put to use in Ariyalur and Perambalur districts and proved to successful.

With introduction of the system the consumers would not get any receipt. The bill for the produce would be sent to their Mobile Phonein SMS form.
 

The District PoS would contain all the details of the cardholders including the number family members,Aadhar card Number.

They would be informed about the proposed sale of essential commodities,the quantity that would be available to them etc by Mobile SMS.

The system would be introduced in a phased manner.

According to an official of the Company who supplying the PoS system,there were about 7Crore people receiving essential commodities through about 170lakh cards.

The state government had already approved the contract for computerization with smart Ration cards. The government had also decided to provide Smart cards to ration card holders and arrangements for the same was being taken.

The government,after the introduction of Smart cards, would reduce the Bogus cards. Significantly. The PoS system combined with Smart cards would make PDS system almost fool proof, the official said. Already Aadhar card link also had been created,the official said.
