Rawat, Arya among nearly 200 to file nominations in U'khand

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat, PCC chief Kishore Upadhyay, heavyweight Congress turncoat now in BJP Yashpal Arya and Pradesh Mahila Congress President Sarita Arya are among nearly 200 candidates who filed their nominations today for the February 15 assembly elections.

Rawat filed his nominations from Kichcha, one of the two Vidhan Sabha seats he is contesting this time, Upadhyay from Sahaspur, Yashpal Arya from Bajpur and Sarita from Nainital.

The chief minister filed his nominations before assistant returning officer Naresh Durgapal in Kichcha in Udhamsingh Nagar district.

His proposers Haji Sarvaryar Khan, Vir Manvender Singh and Thakurdas Sukhija were among scores of his supporters who accompanied the chief minister as he filed his nominations.
 

Haridwar (rural) is the other seat from where Rawat is contesting. However, he is yet to file his nominations from there.

Sarita Arya, filed her nomination for Nainital constituency amid much fanfare with thousands of her supporters accompanying her in the form of a procession from Mallital to the collectorate.

The state election office which is still compiling the final figure said there were reports about a total of 199 candidates filing their nominations today.
