Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today regretted unwillingness on part of doctors to work in rural areas despite being paid better than their counterparts in other states and asked them to use their expertise to serve people in remote areas.
"Many villages in Uttarakhand have produced a good number doctors. But unfortunately none of them is ready today to serve their own village despite the fact that they draw a better salary than their counterparts in other states," Rawat said addressing a function here to mark the International Pharmacist Day.
Describing the medical profession as different from other professions with service to humanity being its core principle, the Chief Minister said doctors should rise above narrow considerations and readily accept rural and remote postings so that they give their services where they are needed most.
"If doctors work with the human aspect of their profession in mind, they will be able to serve people better and distinguish themselves more easily," he said.
