Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today stressed on the importance of setting up Self Help Groups (SHG) for women to bolster the state economy and asked all branches of State Bank Of India to adopt one such group each.

"Every branch of the bank can adopt a womens' Self Help Group in order to empower them and in turn strengthen the rural economy," he said while inaugurating 'Pragati Daur' a race organised by the bank this evening.

Assistance of the banking sector is important to turn these women's SHGs into a business group, Rawat said.

"State Bank of India has been directly associated with Uttarakhand's development since its formation and we need to strengthen this bond further," he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy General Manager of SBI M B Diwakar said the bank would fully take care of womens' Self Help Group in the state.
