Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today launched the second phase of the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme in the state, providing cashless medical treatment coverage worth Rs 1.75 lakh to Above Poverty Line and Below Poverty Line families.
Beneficiaries of the scheme earlier got cashless medical treatment coverage up to Rs 50,000.
Promising to further extend the coverage limit of Rs 1.75 lakh in future, Rawat said no one in the state will be allowed to forgo treatmentfor want of money.
The beneficiaries can be treated for 1,206 common and 459 serious ailments under the scheme at 151 government and private hospitals identified for the purpose all over the state, an official release said.
Announcing that the scheme had been launched for people who could not afford proper treatment of their ailments due to poverty, Rawat said that beneficiaries whose treatment costs exceed Rs 1.75 lakh will not be left to fend for themselves but will be taken care of under state illness scheme and chief minister's relief fund.
Asking private hospitals to associatethemselves with the scheme, Rawat said they should come forward and upgrade their facilities in hilly areas.
National Health Insurance card holders can also benefit from the scheme whose second phase will be implemented in the state by Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, a company roped in on contract for the purpose.
