Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today paid tribute to Subhash Chanda Bose, describing him as "one of the protagonists of India's freedom movement who possessed remarkable leadership qualities".

Addressing a function organised by the Rashtriya Ekta Parishad here to mark Bose's 118th birth anniversary, Rawat said Netaji's motivating leadership instilled in the soldiers of the Azad Hind Fauj the urge to sacrifice their lives for the sake of the country's freedom.

The Chief Minister also honoured freedom fighter Sita devi on the occasion.

Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal said the younger generation can learn a lot from the life of Netaji and follow his footsteps.

The Chief Minister also asked parliamentary secretary and MLA Rajkumar to submit as early as possible an estimate of the expenses to be incurred over the proposed beautification of the Gandhi Park in the city.

Rawat expressed hope that Dehradun Municipal Corporation will actively work toward developing the state capital as a model city.
