A 34-year-old real estate agent was allegedly murdered by four persons in Mumbra township of the district, police said today.

Mohamad Sajid Shaikh Ansari, a resident of Amrutnagar housing society in Mumbra, had apparently complained to the Thane Municipal Corporation regarding an illegal gate put up by another housing complex following which the civic body razed it, Mumbra police station inspector Ravindra Tayde said.

Irked by his complaint and the TMC's action, the accused apprehended Ansari last evening near the housing complex gate. They allegedly beat him up with stumps and rods and also attacked him with sharp weapons, he said.

Ansari was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead, he said.

Two of the assailants have been identified as Majid Kazi and Mohammad, and a manhunt is on to nab all the four men who are at large, he said.

Offences under section 302 (murder) read with 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Bombay Police Act have been registered, Tayde said, adding that further probe is on into the case.
