Engagement of community in decision-making process and positive reinforcement through awards and payments for sustained service were some of the recommendations to scale up citizen partnership in Swachh Bharat Mission.

These recommendations were presented to SBM (Urban) National Mission Director Praveen Prakash in a form of report prepared on the culmination of a two-day consultative workshop, organised by Urban Development Ministry in partnership with Tata Institute of Social Sciences, today.

Prakash assured that every word of the report will be looked upon and incorporated into the national policy framework, an official release said.

He also informed that the centre would request the States to hold similar workshops at the city level for greater participation, it added.

A key point that emerged from the workshop is that the onus of participation does not lie just on the people/ community, but across different stakeholders, the release said.

The recommendations also included developing new set of rules/norms at the community level and Information, Education and Communication (IEC)/messaging from different sectors - media, Government, religious leaders, community institutions, thought leaders and key influences, it added.
