Record 9.25 lakh footfall at Surajkund crafts fair

The 29th Surajkund International Crafts Mela has seen a record footfall of 9.25 lakh visitors with a number of young couples thronging the place on Valentine's Day.

The footfall recorded till yesterday was 9.25 lakh against 9 lakh visitors last year, authorities said.

Sumita Misra, Chief Administrator, Surajkund Mela Administration and Managing Director of Haryana Tourism Corporation, said that this time the increased participation of 20 countries and added attractions like helicopter ride evoked a great response.

Visitors are enjoying the mela to the fullest, she said, adding that more than 194 foreign artisans and artists are participating in the mela.
 

More than 70 per cent of the craftspersons this year are national and state awardees, she said.

The 13 heritage craft stalls set up are attracting those enthusiastic about heritage.

On Valentine's Day, numerous young couples were seen thronging the mela with some such dancing to the beats of folk music at the Chaupal.

Be it Chhattisgarh gate or Chaupal or international pavilion or even the food court, all spots were brimming with visitors.

Surajkund International Crafts Mela is one of the biggest crafts fairs in the world where visitors enjoy an amalgam of different cultures, crafts and cuisines.
