Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said the state government has decided to recruit teachers strictly based on their merits.

"In future, all the recruitment of teachers will be strictly on merit basis," an official release quoted Khattar as saying.

The Chief Minister along with Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma was presiding over the meeting of representatives of Haryana Rajkiya Adhyapak Parishad and Haryana Education Advisory Committee here today.

Khattar said that the education level in rural areas has "declined".

"The respect which used to be there for teachers earlier is missing now. In order to deal with this challenge, the teachers, teacher organizations and parents should join the state government in our efforts," he said.

The Chief Minister said that in order to improve the education level in schools, the support of retired officers and working employees would be sought along with the support of other learned people of the society.

The state government is soon formulating a new education policy where valuable suggestions of educationists and other experts would be included, he added.

The Khattar said that in view of maintaining the playground in schools, Vyayaamshalas are also being set up in villages.

He said that besides shlokas of Gita and teachings of other holy books, Yoga is also being included in the school curriculum.
