Red Cross to launch medical training programme in J-K

With an aim to train the local youth in providing emergency medical aid, the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) will launch the 'first medical responder programme' from Bhaderwah in the Doda region from July 13.

The programme, a first-of-its-kind in the state, will be launched in collaboration with the State Red Cross Society (SRCS).

IRCS Chairman and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, will inaugurate the programme in Bhaderwah.

"The programme aims at to train local youth as volunteers to ensure quick response in case of calamity or disaster to minimise the loss of human lives," said Roma Wani, honourary general secretary of the SRCS.
 

The youth will be trained in providing first aid, launching rescue and search, disaster management, family news service, maintaining water supply and sanitation, health and hygiene, besides the man and manage camps, she said.

Wani said Bhaderwah in the Doda region has been chosen for the programme as it was the epicentre of the recent earthquake that shook the entire Chenab valley recently.
