Red sandalwood worth Rs 7 crore seized from poultry farm owner

Crime branch officials raided a poultry farm in Ambernath and seized red sandalwood logs worth Rs 7 crore, the police said here today.

Addressing an impromptu news conference here today DCP (Crime) Parag Manere told reporters that acting on a tip-off, officials of the Crime Unit-V raided a poultry farm owned by one Rajesh Krushna Kathavale (30) in Chiradgaon at Ambernath and seized red sandalwood logs from its premises.

The poultry farm owner has been arrested and further investigations are on, while the police has launched a manhunt for others who escaped from the farm during raid, he said.

Offences under Section 379 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 26, 41 and 52 of the Indian Forest Act of 1927, he said.
