Regional Cancer Centre to come up at CMCH

A Regional Cancer Centre is soon coming up at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), its Dean Edwin Joe said today.

The Rs 13 crore facility will have all the equipment and machinery required for a first class cancer institute, Joe told reporters here on the occassion of World Cancer Day.

He said the Centre was expected to be inaugurated shortly.

A total of 500 patients were succesfully treated for cancer at the CMCH last year, he said adding a large number of cases were related to breast and cervical cancers among women, particularly those hailing from rural areas.
 

Meanwhile, the city-based Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Oncology and Research (SRIOR) here today launched a toll free number 18002706626 to create awareness and provide information regarding all common cancers.

SRIOR Director and Oncologist Dr Guhan told reporters tha the "first-of-its-kind" helpline provides information on cancer, the different stages, risk factors, symptoms, screening and diagnosis, treatment options, preventive measures.
