The registration of 729 inactive madrassas have been cancelled by the Rajasthan government in the last two years.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Arun Chaturvedi said in the assembly today that registration of those madrassas which were not active or did not exist, was cancelled.

In one case, the owner of a madrassa had himself got the registration cancelled, he said in reply to a question by Congress MLA Ramesh Meena during the Question Hour.

BJP MLA Anita Singh said government land was being encroached upon by some madrassa owners and demanded action against them.

The minister said that though it was the duty of the local bodies to get the land vacated, he would look into the matter.

He said there were no illegal madrassas and those which were registered with the government get subsidy.
