Relationship with India is of incredible significance: US

Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in Washington on June 6 on a three-day visit

The US has said it views India as a vital partner in the region, adding that the relationship between the two countries is of "incredible significance" to the world, days ahead of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Washington.

"We're very much looking forward to Prime Minister Modi's visit. The US-Indian relationship is of incredible significance, not only to the region but to the world," said State Department Deputy Spokesman Mark Toner.

"The breadth of the US-Indian relationship is wide. It addresses security. It has got a strong economic component. We're looking to build closer relationships across the board with India, because we see it as a vital partner in the region," Toner said.
 

Modi is scheduled to arrive in Washington on June 6 on a three-day visit.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet US President Barack Obama at the White House on June 7 and address a joint meeting of the US Congress on June 8.

"We have a broad bilateral and multilateral relationship with India and look forward to engaging on all those issues," he said.
