Punjab government today ordered the release of two month pending salaries of Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad employees within 10 days, an official release said.

Punjab rural development and panchayat minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa also ordered an inquiry into the "unnecessary" delay in the release of their salaries, the release said.

Earlier, a delegation of the Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad Employees Association today met the minister and told him that their salaries had not been released for several months, it said.

Bajwa issued directions to the senior officers of the department to make a permanent solution for timely release of salaries of the employees of the Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishads.

He also directed the Principal Secretary rural development to take stringent action against those officers who are delaying salaries of the employees without any genuine reason.

He also asked the principal secretary to issue written instructions to the officials concerned at district and block level to release salaries on priority.

The minister assured the employees association to formulate and implement their promotion policy by April 13, the Baisakhi Day.
