Release compensation for dalits or will move court: Congress

Calling Punjab government "anti" dalit and poor, Congress today "warned" of approaching High court if it does not release the compensation amount for kins and victims of an accident two years ago in which 23 persons were killed in Hoshiarpur.

Congress will approach Punjab and Haryana High Court if the government does not release the compensation amount for the victims of accident which occured on October 9, 2013, Congress Spokesperson Sukhpal Singh Khera told reporters here today.

23 persons, including women and children, were killed when a truck rolled down a 100 feet deep gorge in Hoshiarpur.

The state government had announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs one lakh each to the kin of deceased persons and Rs 25,000 each to injured, Khera said.
 

All the victims belonged to Bajaj and Fatehpur village of Bholath area of the district, he said.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had announced to give assistance of Rs one crore to family of Sarabjit Singh, the Indian death row prisoner who died in Pakistan jail, and job to his daughters but never bothered to check if the promises were fulfilled, he alleged.
