Facing a penalty of Rs 1 crore from the Municipal Corporation here, Reliance Jio has lodged a police complaint against its contractors in the city for "misuse and abuse" of mandate given by it to lay cables.

Reliance Jio, the telecom arm of Reliance Industries, alleged that vendors laid additional optical fibre cables of another company and kept Reliance Jio in the dark about it.

A complaint of cheating and breach of trust was lodged with crime branch on March 7 against Dipak Kachhadia and Arjan Patel and owner of Ishan Infotech, it said in a statement.

R-Jio had received permission for laying optical fibre cable network in the city from Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) in December 2013. The RMC had last week imposed a fine of Rs 1 crore on R-Jio for misusing the permission. It was asked to pay the fine before March 15.

"We discovered in our inspections that vendors mandated for this project had indulged in misuse and abuse of the mandate and had managed to lay additional unauthorised cable while doing our contracted work," a R-Jio spokesperson said.
