Rain lashed a few parts of Haryana and Punjab and conditions were overcast at some places in the states Sunday, providing relief to people from scorching heat.
Sirsa, Fatehabad, Mahendergarh and some other places in Haryana experienced light to moderate rainfall. Amritsar, Gurdaspur and a few other areas in Punjab also received showers.
In many areas, including Chandigarh, weather conditions were overcast.
The change in weather brought respite to people from heat as maximum temperatures at most places in Haryana and Punjab had hovered in the range of 42-45 degrees Celsius for several days.
According to meteorological department forecast, light to moderate rain is likely at a few places on June 16, 17 and 18 in Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh.
"After several days of hot weather, we are hoping for some rainfall now. During this season, Chandigarh too has been unusually hot and even yesterday the maximum temperature here reached close to 43 degrees Celsius. This change in weather is a welcome relief," said Aditya, a Class 10 student.
"During summer holidays, we were unable to go out for most part of the day and play as it was very hot here. But today it feels much better and we just hope the scorching heat does not return," said Jhanvi, another student.
