An outfit representing Gujjars today demanded that the compensation provided to the kin of the victims of Pakistan's firing and shelling be made at par with the relief amount given to those affected by militancy.

"We demand that the compensation for the kin of victims who were killed in firing and shelling by Pakistani troops on the borders be made at par with the ex gratia relief that is given to family members of those who are killed in militancy-related incidents," said Esfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal, President of J&K unit of Bhartiya Gujjar Maha Sabha (BGMS).

Poswal was on a visit to Joura Farm village where recently one Akram Hussain and his son Aslam were killed and three other family members were injured when a Pakistan shell exploded inside their house after tearing the roof.

He said he was told by villagers that a compensation of Rs one lakh was given to the family which was "not enough".

Poswal met DG (BSF) and Army Brigadier at Bhana Singh Stadium besides some panchayat members.
