Exhorting people to work for building a harmonious society based on love, compassion, equality and human dignity, National Conference provincial president Devender Singh Rana today said religious intolerance can only lead to confusion and chaos in the society.

"We are witnessing with concern some forces emerging with myopic vision where pluralism has a limited space and scope to grow," Rana said at a religious congregation held at Guru Ravi Dass Mandir here this evening.

He described such a tendency as detrimental to the growth of a harmonious society where people of different faiths can live together with honour and dignity.

The NC leader cautioned against divisive and communal forces and said "unless their menacing advances are not checked, peace and harmony will be in peril".

He called for collective efforts to dilute whatever influence peace inimical elements enjoy, saying that society will have to rise in unison to say "no" to their machinations.

Rana said National Conference has all along been fighting these reactionary forces and will continue to do so in future.

The leader paid rich tributes to Guru Ravi Dassji, saying that the great saint all his life worked for a just society based on equality and human dignity.
