Pop singer Remo Fernandes, accused of threatening a girl, had surrendered his Indian citizenship and become a Portuguese national, the Goa police today said.
He had been issued a summons through the Portuguese embassy to appear before the investigating officer, the police said.
The 62-year old singer is accused of threatening a minor girl at Goa Medical College And Hospital where she was being treated after being hit by a car driven by Remo's son Jonah.
"Remo has already surrendered his Indian passport and taken Portuguese citizenship. So we had to issue him a summons through the Portuguese embassy," inspector Jivba Dalvi said.
He has been asked to appear before the investigating officer at4 pm tomorrow, while his son has been summoned at 10 am.
Police had earlier asked Remo to be present on Monday, but he didn't turn up, so a second summons was issued.
"We have already submitted the summons to the Foreigner Regional Registration Office which will forward it to the embassy," inspector Dalvi said.
Remo, who resides in Goa but is currently touring Europe, has said the charges against him are baseless.
