National record holder Renjith Maheswary today bagged his second triple jump gold in a week in the second leg of the Indian Grand Prix athletics meet but failed to touch the World Championships qualification mark here.

Maheswary, who had also won gold in men's triple jump in the first leg of the Indian GP at the same NIS tracks here on March 31, cleared 16.78 metres as his best effort to win the event. His effort was however 7cm short of 'B' qualification standard for the World Championships in Moscow in August.

The Railway athlete will have to wait for another fortnight to try his luck in the Federation Cup slated to be held here from April 23 to 26.

On the shot put arena, Olympian Om Praksh Singh Karhana recorded three throws over 18m with the best of series being 18.65m on his sixth and last round. It was almost one and a half metre below the required norm for Moscow qualification.

Railway's Jithin Paul won the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 51.72s, a marked improvement than his 52.48s effort at the first leg.

On the field, Devender Singh spearheaded Army's challenge with his best mark of 76.77m to retain his dominance in javelin throw.

Multi-events specialist and national decathlon record-holder Bharatinder Singh was a surprise winner in men's 200m dash. However, his ambition to make it a double with long jump gold went futile as Air Force's Arshad Hussain defended his title with a last round leap of 7.56m to Singh's 7.54m.

Meanwhile, M R Poovamma, representing Oil and Natural Gas Commission, clocked her best on Indian soil with an impressive time of 53.59 secs to win women's 400m dash.
